El Yunque is unlike anywhere else in the United States. We drop you at El Portal Visitor Center: the gateway to exhibits, panoramic views, and self-guided trail access. No navigating narrow mountain roads. No parking stress. Just the forest.

We drop off and pick up at El Portal Visitor Center on PR-191 N in Rio Grande. The Visitor Center is at the lower entrance to the forest, and the trails above are a separate area accessed by vehicle further up the road. The official gateway to El Yunque. Exhibits on the rainforest ecosystem, ranger programs, gift shop, café, and endangered Puerto Rican Parrot sightings. Entry fee applies. Self-guided exploration from the Visitor Center grounds.
